After Roddy gets flushed down the toilet by Sid and ended up in the sewer, he panicked, swam around, crawled up onto the ledge and met a slug and screamed in shock, who screamed back and slithered away really fast. Roddy tried to wake up, thinking it was just a dream, but he was not home and again whilst snivelling, slapped himself to get a grip of his fear. He looked up at all the Slugs on the wall and started screaming again, also looking at a slug on his back and trying to get off. Hearing a horn at metal hatch, he heard and looked at a slug still screaming and slithering.
Whilst Pegleg (with Goldfish) helped take Roddy to the Jammy Dodger, he walked down and stopped a bit by hearing slugs whistling an eerie tune. Slug on the box in top said "Beware" to him. He met Rita, who was hiding from Spike and Whitey, but accidentally pushed a lever that made air horns blare at the sail and remove the boat's brick disguise. He stepped in a bucket, horn, and finally fell down in the water to hide below, but three slugs started screaming at him, causing him to urge them to keep quiet.
Later, Roddy tried to search for Rita by a chasing Spike and Whitey who stepped on two slugs, slipping and landing in vegetable costumes.
When Roddy stole the Jammy Dodger and it broke, he heard the slugs on the buoy singing "Don't Worry, Be Happy" to cheer him up. After Rita fixed the boat, the slugs on the pond sung "Ice Cold Rita" with Roddy on the floating Duck playing the guitar.
At night, the slugs were still on the water singing in love, with a female slug with eyelashes and blue eyelids having accidentally ate another slug. They sung at Roddy that his food was actually maggots rather than rice, with three accompanying singing maggot thrown away from his spoon.
Later, the slugs were on top of the Jammy Dodger and gasped at the danger, Roddy making a car alarm and the hand holding onto the pole, with the slugs trying to slither up. A few slugs grabbed a paper umbrella with a mouth and flew up, blowing a raspberry at Le Frog and heading up into the sky. As Roddy waved Rita goodbye after finally making it home for good, he saw the slugs sing "Mr. Lonely" outside the window of his Kensington home, then slamming the window and walking away.
Roddy ended up reverting his decision and headed back to the sewer in Ratropolis to stop the Toad's evil plan to open the flood gates during halftime of the World Cup. There, he and Rita saw slugs screaming and slithering away from the ensuing tidal wave. Then pipe would gush out and freeze the wave in ice, the slugs riding atop it, saving the rodents from being "flushed away" and causing celebration.
In the epilogue of the film, the a female slug would start to sing "Proud Mary" amongst others. They were present as the characters tested out their new Jammy Dodger 2. Grandmum Malone at one point tried to kiss Roddy, who held out a slug for her to unknowingly kiss instead. They remained present on the boat after the button is pressed to make it go faster.
In the credits, the Slugs continue dancing in animations beside the credits, with a message saying "No slugs were a-salted during the making of this film."
