Chicken Run 2 (originally titled "Untitled Chicken Run Sequel")is a 2021 upcoming stop-motion claymated comedy film and the sequel to Aardman's Chicken Run (2000). It will be distributed this time by Netflix, Aardman Animations and DreamWorks Pictures, who have distributed Aardman's Shaun the Sheep: The Movie (2015) and Early Man (2018). Also Pathé will return to distribute the sequel just like that company distributed the first movie in 2000. DreamWorks Animation, a partner in the first film, had ended their partnership with Aardman after the release of Flushed Away (2006) which was Aardman's last film with DreamWorks and they will not return to distribute the sequel. The film is being postponed until 2021 due to the new Wallace & Gromit feature film Holiday From Home being released in August 26, 2021, It will be released by Netflix and EuropaCorp instead of DreamWorks Pictures.

Plot Synopsis Summary

Having pulled off a death-defying escape from Tweedy’s farm, Ginger has finally found her dream – a peaceful island sanctuary for the whole flock, far from the dangers of the human world. When she and Rocky hatch a little girl called Molly, Ginger’s happy ending seems complete. But back on the mainland the whole of chicken-kind faces a new and terrible threat. For Ginger and her team, even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk – this time, they’re breaking in!

Production

The film was announced on April 26, 2018. It was also announced that Aardman Animations was reuniting with Aardman Animation Pathe & DreamWorks Pictures. DreamWorks will have no involvement after they ended their partnership with Flushed Away in 2006. Sam Fell is attached to direct with Paul Kewley & Nick Park producing. The Original Chicken Run Writers Karey Kirtpatrick & John O' Farrell will return for the Sequel. The Aardman Co-Founders Peter Lord & David Sproxton will serve as Executive Producers. On June 23 2020 - the 20th anniversary of the films release in the U.S. cinemas - Netflix announced that it had negotiated with Aardman Animation, Pathe, & DreamWorks Universal Studios, to aquire the rights to the Sequel. Principal Photography began on 27 February 2021.
